Robin Steinberg

Robin Steinberg is a leader and a pioneer in the field of indigent defense. Since graduating from the New York University School of Law in 1982, Robin has spent her entire career as a public defender. In 1997, Robin founded The Bronx Defenders, where she helped develop The Bronx Defenders’ model of holistic defense – a client-centered model of public defense that uses interdisciplinary teams of advocates to address both the underlying causes and collateral consequences of criminal justice involvement. Robin has been honored by the National Legal Aid & Defender Association for her “exceptional vision, devotion, and service in the quest for equal justice” and by the New York Bar Association for her “outstanding contributions to the delivery of defense services.” She was awarded Harvard Law School’s Wasserstein Fellowship in recognition of her “outstanding contributions and dedication to public interest law.” Robin created the Externship in Holistic Defense at Columbia Law School and is the author of a number of articles, including “Heeding Gideon’s Call in the 21st Century: Holistic Defense and the New Public Defense Paradigm” (Washington and Lee Law Review, Summer 2013). In addition to her work with Still She Rises, Robin is the CEO of The Bail Project.

Amy Monsour Santee is a Senior Program Officer at the George Kaiser Family Foundation. She joined the team in 2006 and is responsible for the foundation’s investments in areas related to female incarceration and criminal justice reform. Amy helped launch several new initiatives in Tulsa including Women in Recovery, Center for Employment Opportunities and most recently Still She Rises. She also manages Tulsa Community Foundation’s Oklahoma Justice Fund, a funding collaborative working to boost economic mobility and reduce incarceration across Oklahoma. She currently serves on the boards of Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform, Still She Rises, Oklahoma Justice Fund and appointed to the Tulsa County Criminal Justice Planning and Policy Council and CEO advisory council. Amy graduated Order of the Coif from University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2001, where she served as Research Editor of the Oklahoma Law Review. Prior to joining GKFF, she practiced real estate law at the firm of Conner & Winters and served as in-house counsel at WilTel Communications.

Dr. Price is a board certified gynecologist with a subspecialization in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology). She serves as the Medical Director and the Director of Research for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma, School of Community Medicine in Tulsa. She received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska. She simultaneously received her master of clinical research degree while completing her fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the Oregon Health and Sciences University.

Lisa Hoyes

Lisa Hoyes joined the Law School from the Federal Defenders of New York, where she served as an Assistant Federal Defender from 2009 to 2015. At Federal Defenders, Lisa handled a wide variety of cases, including terrorism, narcotics, weapons, immigration, and securities fraud. As the Federal Defender liaison to two innovative court diversion programs, one for young offenders and one for defendants struggling with substance abuse, Lisa worked alongside the judges of the Eastern District of New York to implement and expand the programs. Prior to joining the Federal Defenders, Lisa spent nearly a decade at the Bronx Defenders, advocating for thousands of indigent clients. She took a leave of absence from the Bronx Defenders in 2004 to serve as an NYU Law Fellow at the Equal Justice Initiative, working with Professor of Clinical Law Bryan Stevenson to represent death row inmates and other offenders facing life sentences under three-strikes laws. Lisa later returned to the Bronx Defenders as a Supervising Attorney and a member of the Advanced Felony Trial Unit. After graduating from NYU Law, Lisa won a Soros Justice Postgraduate Fellowship to undertake a project she designed to provide civil legal services to juveniles involved in delinquency proceedings and the criminal justice system. For two years, she provided immigration, housing, family law, and benefits representation to young people under the auspices of Legal Aid’s Juvenile Rights Division and The Door’s Legal Services Center. While at the Law School, Lisa was a Sinsheimer Scholar, an active member of BALSA, an associate editor of NYU Law Review, and a participant in the Juvenile Rights clinic. Lisa received a BA in Language and Culture and Political Science from SUNY Purchase.

Dion Owens, MD

Dion Owens, MD is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who leads a diverse life as a medical doctor, wife, mother and active member of the Tulsa community. Since her family’s move to Tulsa 14 years ago, Dion has worked as a community-based psychiatrist, caring for adults and children with mental health challenges. For several years she also served as Vice President of the medical staff at a local mental health facility. In addition, to her professional work, Dion also partners with her husband in ministry at Metropolitan Church. Dion believes her roles in ministry and her work as a psychiatrist are a great compliment to one another; both provide opportunities for healing, encouraging and uplifting vulnerable populations. Dion fervently advocates for the church’s role as an agent of not only spiritual enlightenment but also of social justice!

Dion obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and her Doctor of Medicine degree from Rutgers Medical School. She is incredibly grateful for her educational opportunities and takes to heart Princeton’s call to its students and alumni to live “In the Nation’s Service and the Service of Humanity.” Acts of service, kindness and love are integral to Dion’s understanding of what it means to live to productive life. Prior to matriculating in medical school, Dion taught fourth grade in an under-resourced community in Southern California.

Dion maintains membership in several organizations that prioritize community service, including Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, The Links, Incorporated and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Her recent community accomplishments and awards include: Women of Color Expo— Public Servant of the Year Award (2017); Speaker, Afternoons of African American Awareness Seminar Series, Tulsa Community College, Metro Campus (2016); Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, Status of Women Award (2015)

Dion is the mother of two incredibly talented young women and has been married to Dr. Ray Owens for 27years.
